The term Acadia today refers to regions of North America that are historically associated with the lands, descendants, and culture of the former French region in the Canadian Maritimes; primarily in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Maine, the Magdalen Islands, and Prince Edward Island, as well as Southern Louisiana (Cajuns in Louisiana are Acadians with a southern pronunciation).
